Car insurance customers admit to bad driving habits

Many motor insurance policyholders are guilty of eating and drinking at the wheel, according to new research.

In a survey conducted by Co-operative Insurance, late-running motorists admitted to getting dressed while driving to work, while some female drivers confessed to applying their make-up in the driving seat.

As many as 53 per cent of the 3,000 car insurance customers quizzed said that they regularly eat and drink at the wheel, while 12 per cent admitted to smoking.

Grant Mitchell, a spokesperson for the firm, said: “These alarming figures show drivers are unnecessarily increasing the chances of causing or being involved in an accident.”

With so many drivers revealing their bad driving habits, motor insurance customers may be inclined to check that they have the best available car insurance cover.

Earlier this week, car owners were reminded of how important motor insurance is, when a large bear took one US driver’s vehicle on a destructive joyride ? after breaking in to steal a peanut butter sandwich.
