Police in the south west of England are urging car insurance policyholders to be on their guard, after a number of catalytic converters have been stolen from parked vehicles in the region.
Since the end of May, there have been around 20 recorded catalytic converter thefts across Bristol, Gloucestershire and Somerset.
Officers from Avon and Somerset Constabulary are appealing for motorists to be “extra vigilant” when parking their cars and are calling for anyone with information relating to the crimes to come forward.
The police have advised drivers to “ensure your car alarm is activated” and, where possible, to “park your car in a secure driveway or garage”.
Also in the south west, police have recently been staging a major crackdown on drivers who flout road safety laws, the Dorset Echo reported last week.
Motorists in the area have been caught committing more than 7,000 separate driving offences during the four-month operation, with lawbreakers reportedly offering a variety of “bizarre excuses” for their behaviour.
