Warning to car insurance customers over level crossings

Police have warned UK motor insurance policyholders of the dangers in misusing level crossings, following a spate of incidents across Lancashire.

PC Ric Herbert, from British Transport Police, told the Lancashire Evening Post that unmanned railway crossings at Club Lane in Croston, Paiges Lane in Leyland and Canal Bridge in Rufford had all been brought to his attention.

“It appears that people are taking huge gambles at these crossings by ignoring the warning signs and trying to hurry across without paying full attention to the railway,” he told the newspaper.
The officer also said that there had been reports of car insurance customers not properly fastening the gates at crossings, potentially making it easier for children to gain access to the deadly railway lines.

Earlier this week, police officers in Dorset revealed that more than 1,000 motor insurance policyholders had been caught not wearing their seatbelts while driving, in a recent crackdown operation.

As many as 53 per cent of the 3,000 car insurance customers quizzed said that they regularly eat and drink at the wheel, while 12 per cent admitted to smoking.

Grant Mitchell, a spokesperson for the firm, said: “These alarming figures show drivers are unnecessarily increasing the chances of causing or being involved in an accident.”

With so many drivers revealing their bad driving habits, motor insurance customers may be inclined to check that they have the best available car insurance cover.

Wrexham car insurance customers targeted in crackdown

Motor insurance policyholders in Wrexham have been warned by the police to follow road rules carefully or expect to be pulled over, as officers stage a high-profile crackdown on dangerous drivers.

According to local newspaper The Leader, a number of complaints had been made by homeowners and businesses in the area that car insurance customers were regularly flouting access restrictions in the Yorke Street area.

Community beat manager John Clarke told the newspaper: “We are going to be taking action on this issue with fixed penalty notices for people who break the regulations.”

Last month the news provider reported that drivers were causing serious concerns for people around Charles Street and Yorke Street, by ignoring traffic regulations.

In November, police officers conducted an operation in the area to enforce restrictions on Duke Street, near the bus station, which motorists were using as a shortcut despite signs stating that it was for use by buses only.
