Car Insurance and first time speeding offences

Insurance companies are cracking down on drivers who incur minor motor offences by increasing their premiums dramatically after a first speeding offence.

Although most people would not condone speeding, many first time drivers are more at risk of being caught speeding.

Historically, many car insurers overlooked a first speeding offence, but new research undertaken by AA Insurance show that has changed.

It’s fair to say that most motorists today worry about being caught speeding and that moment of being captured on camera as there is very little you can do to avoid the punishments as the UK government have been installing increasing amounts of speed cameras on all roads throughout the UK over the past few years in an attempt to reduce speeding accidents.

It does not matter whether you are caught knowingly speeding or whether you have crept above the speed limit by accident as the fact is you were speeding and therefore have to face punishment of a fixed fine, penalty points and suffer the prospect of increased insurance premiums.

When renewing an insurance premium you are legally you are required to disclose any driving offences and speeding endorsements you have received to your car insurance company. T

Zurich responds to MoJ car insurance announcement

The Ministry of Justice announced earlier this week that the government is to ban referral fees as part of its reform of the personal injury (PI) claims process.

Responding to the development, Stephen Lewis, CEO of Zurichs UK general insurance business, said: Zurich welcomes the Ministry of Justice announcement that it is to ban referral fees.

We have been leading the call for a full implementation of Lord Justice Jacksons recommendations, of which this is one, and we await the full detail as to the way the government plan to implement this proposal.

However, this one element will not in itself create a car insurance market where consumers will see dramatic premium reductions.

We need the full series of reforms outlined by Lord Jackson; particularly the requirement for a reduction in legal costs, which will drive the excess cost out of the system.

We want the risk of these fees popping up in another form removed and in addition, there needs to be action to tackle whiplash.

Diamond claims 23% of female drivers apply make-up while driving

More than 3.5 million female drivers could be putting themselves and other road users at risk by using their morning drive to apply make-up and do other routine tasks.

Women’s car insurance specialist Diamond quizzed more than 2,000 female motorists on their driving habits and discovered that 23% of women apply make-up while driving and 16% of these have crashed or had a near miss as a result.

Although 60% of women who admitted to applying their make-up behind the wheel did it when stopped in traffic or at traffic lights, 12% do so when the car is moving and 7% take their hands off the wheel completely to do it.

The survey showed 84% of women who apply make-up while driving know that its dangerous, with 41% having done it with passengers in the car and 30% having done it when children were travelling with them.

Whiplash claims cause Car Insurance premiums to rise

A report released by MP’s reveals that insurance claims made for whiplash is one of the reasons that car insurance premiums are rising each year.

Whiplash ensues when the ligaments in the neck are sprained which is usually triggered by a sudden movement of the head. Symptoms include pain, stiffness and lack of ability to move the neck.

A collision in a car, particularly from behind can lead to whiplash .

The Common Transport Committee reached out to ministers asking them to change the British law to make it tougher for people to make unchallenged claims for whiplash injuries; so it could be good news for car insurance costs as they are once again under scrutiny by the UK Government.

Back at the beginning of 2011, the Transport Committee started investigating the reason for the continually rising costs of insurance; in fact the cost of car insurance has risen 50% in the past two years. T

Music keeps us going on the road, claims Confused.com

Drivers in the UK cant stomach music-free car journeys, according to a Confused.com poll.

More than half (53%) of the 2,000 respondents said they couldnt cope without music in the car and wouldnt buy a car without a stereo.

Around 55% of drivers sing along to music in the car and 27% tap along to the beat with their hands or feet.

According to the car insurance comparison site, the UKs top ten driving ballads are: Dont Stop Me Now (Queen), Bohemian Rhapsody (Queen), Shut Up and Drive (Rihanna), Dakota (Stereophonics), Fast Car (Tracey Chapman), Ace of Spades (Motorhead), Born to Run (Bruce Springsteen), Highway to Hell (AC/DC) and All Right Now (Free).

Gareth Kloet, head of car insurance at Confused.com, said: Having music on in the car has grown into a modern tradition and while we would, of course, encourage all drivers to concentrate on the road, we like happy drivers who enjoy being in their cars.

Just make sure to hide away your valuable music equipment when leaving your car as it can be an invitation to thieves.

Car Insurance prices offered light relief in February 2012

Car insurance prices declined by a tiny 0.1% for February 2012 which offers very small relief considering the fact that the average car insurance policy has doubled in price over the past two years.

It’s no wonder UK drivers aren’t filled with enthusiasm at the thought of shopping around for a new car insurance policy when they are confronted with ever increasing prices and it seems the price increases are affecting all consumers across the board.

According to DVLA there are 2,075,271 licence holders between the ages of 16 and 20 and these young drivers are being hammered with the cost of car insurance. In many cases the car insurance can actually cost more than the car itself! Thi
