LV= paid out 93% of critical illness (CI) and income protection (IP) claims in the 12 months to June, with total payouts of almost £9 million and £12 million respectively.
One per cent of IP claims and 3% of CI claims were rejected as a result of non-disclosure.
The mutual puts the average age of an IP claimant at 44 years and the average age of a CI claimant at 47 years, with mental disorder the most common reason for an IP claim (30%), and cancer the most common reason for a CI claim (58%).
Over the year, the average annual benefit for an IP claim stood at £14,389, which will typically be paid out for just over seven years.
LV=s head of protection, Mark Jones, comments: Our consistently high percentage of paid claims illustrates our firm commitment to supporting people in difficult times, and through processes such as our tele-interviewing service and intelligent underwriting, we continue to see a very low number of claims declined for non-disclosure.
He adds: We are also proud to be one of only a few providers publishing IP claims data.
