Car insurance policyholders ‘will soon face roadside drug tests’

Drug tests for motor insurance policyholders will be trialled within two years, in an effort to combat the growing number of people driving whilst under the influence, a London newspaper has reported.

Ministers are keen to rush out newly developed ‘drugalyser’ devices to crack down on motorists affected by cannabis, ecstasy, cocaine and other narcotic substances, according to the Evening Standard.

In an interview with the paper, transport secretary Philip Hammond warned that the anti-social use of drugs on the road is a more common and serious problem than most people think it is.

He said: “I suspect that drug-driving is a bit of an iceberg issue.

Driving A BMW = Six-Figure Salary and a College Education?

What types of folks tend to own luxury cars? At the end of a BusinessWeek article about the struggling Lincoln brand, I ran across this chart detailing the median income and age of the respective owners of each major luxury brand:

Age
Overall, this a bit older than I would have guessed for a median age. But since wealth tends to increase with age, I suppose it makes sense. BMW and Audi has the youngest crowd, with Lincoln and Cadillac with the oldest.

Income
I wonder if the JD Power survey asked for individual or household income. According to the 2005 Census, a household income over $100,000 puts you in the top 15% of the country.

Save money on premiums but do not go for fronting

One of your main priorities while assessing your motoring costs is the price of car insurance premium. Providing false data in your car insurance document can lead to the policy being treated as void by the insurance company.
Fronting is a very common method with the help of which people try to save money on their car insurance premium costs. Fronting is done when an elder person purchases an insurance cover for a car on his own name as the main driver, but adds another younger driver in it. But in reality the younger drivers drive the vehicle mostly. People tend to avoid insurance policies for young drivers by going for fronting options.

Corporate Bucks Behind ‘Citizens’ Initiatives In Calif.

(Click here to listen the broadcast of this news segment.)

Some of the most closely watched contests in California’s June primary election are for ballot initiatives. In the past, voters have used them to rewrite the laws on everything from taxes to medical marijuana to raising chickens. But increasingly, these “citizens initiatives” are being sponsored by corporations.

Take Proposition 16, for example. The initiative, which proponents call the “Taxpayer’s Right to Vote Act,” would require a city or county that wants to start a municipal utility or expand an existing one to get approval from two-thirds of its voters. The backer

Car insurance policy holders urged to drive safely on bank holiday

A major motoring association has advised car insurance policyholders to take particular care on country roads this bank holiday weekend.

The Institute of Advanced Motorists has warned that crashes on rural roads tend to be more serious and unfamiliar country lanes pose lots of hidden risks.

Neil Greig, director of policy and research for the group, said: “The lush grass at this time of year makes it particularly difficult to see round bends, so take corners with extra care.”

He added that the number of motorcycle accidents also tends to rise in summer months, with more than 75 per cent of such incidents occurring in fine weather and on dry roads.

According to research by the organisation, summer is the peak season for rural road deaths and serious injuries.

A recent study also found that 45 per cent of rural road deaths and serious injuries occur on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays, with most taking place on dry roads in fine weather.
